Green Buildings: “Time to Go Green”

Exploitation of nature and natural resources is not a recent activity, it is from the days when man first started building his house with the help of bamboo trees and coconut leaves to protect himself from sun and rain. Apart from killing the trees he also disturbed the natural habitat of the insects, animals and birds in those trees and interfered in the cycles of nature. That was a beginning of exploitation of mother nature.

The damage which is going around now-a-days is beyond imagination. The construction of various types of buildings using sand and water from the rivers, stones from the mountains, cement manufactured from the ingredients dug from the land and also carbon emission from the buildings and manufacture of construction materials warm up the air and space and exploited the natural resources to large extent.

After getting conscious about the environment and understanding their environmental responsibilities, people came up with a innovative concept known as GREEN BUILDINGS.

The concept of green building shows us the new approach to save water, energy and material resources in the construction and maintenance of the buildings and also eliminates the adverse impact of buildings on the environment and occupants.

Green Buildings

Go Green, Save Mother Nature

By preferring Green Building over a conventional building we help this planet earth and the people to retain nature to a maximum extent possible in three ways with reference to the location of the buildings.

1. Retain the external environment at the location of the building.
2. Improve internal environment for the occupants
3. Preserve the environment at places far away from the building

Green buildings are designed to have a longer life-cycle, and help conserve natural resources like water, while consuming minimal power and energy.

Although the initial investment on green building  4-5 percent costlier than conventional buildings but in the long run the return on investment will be very high. Indian developers are realizing it fast and interest is increasing.

When we come to the electrical aspect of green buildings the sensors such as occupancy sensors, motion sensors etc. play a very important role. They are very convenient for conserving energy to a considerable amount. They are the latest features of energy conservation equipments. Carbon Credits for Dummies

Carbon dioxide, the most important greenhouse gas produced by combustion of fuels, has become a cause of global panic as its concentration in the Earth’s atmosphere has been rising alarmingly.

This devil, however, is now turning into a product that helps people, countries, consultants, traders, corporations and even farmers earn billions of rupees. This was an unimaginable trading opportunity not more than a decade ago.

A permit that allows the holder to emit one ton of carbon dioxide. Credits are awarded to countries or groups that have reduced their green house gases below their emission quota. Carbon credits can be traded in the international market at their current market price.

For example, if an environmentalist group plants enough trees to reduce emissions by one ton, the group will be awarded a credit. If a steel producer has an emissions quota of 10 tons, but is expecting to produce 11 tons, it could purchase this carbon credit from the environmental group. The carbon credit system looks to reduce emissions by having countries honor their emission quotas and offer incentives for being below them.

Make money from carbon credits

CARBON CREDITS

India and China are likely to emerge as the biggest sellers and Europe is going to be the biggest buyers of carbon credits.

Last year global carbon credit trading was estimated at $5 billion, with India’s contribution at around $1 billion. India is one of the countries that have ‘credits’ for emitting less carbon. India and China have surplus credit to offer to countries that have a deficit.

India has generated some 30 million carbon credits and has roughly another 140 million to push into the world market. Waste disposal units, plantation companies, chemical plants and municipal corporations can sell the carbon credits and make money.

Energy Conservation is the need of the hour.

Now-a-days the fear of running out of all our energy resources is the new buzz which is going around.  The main reason for this energy crisis is over consumption of energy resources. If this problem is overlooked now then our future generations will be deprived of the basic amenity like electricity.

Can we imagine a day when we cannot even switch on the lights and fans due to lack of energy resources that generate electricity?  Some steps have to be taken now to conserve the energy resources. The goverrnment and other bodies are doing their part in order to save the future but unless and until each individual does not come forward and understand their responsibilities nothing much could be expected.

We can conserve energy by properly managing our electrical appliances such as lights, fans, air conditioners,  heaters etc.  If we follow a routine in which we make it a point to properly save and conserve electricity, we can definitely observe the changes which will be reflected in our electricity bills. By just improving on our day-to-day habits of using the electricity we can analyze that we have slashed our electricity bills by almost 50%.

Energy conservation

SAVE ENERGY, SAVE EARTH

rving energy resources and saving electricity is placing sensors that control our electrical appliances and when not in use they are switched off automatically. More and more commercial organizations as well as residential buildings are coming forward and using these occupancy sensors and light sensors to reduce their electrical bills which as an end result is helping in conserving energy.
